Use the NSE bid verification page or the registrar KFin Technologies’ website with your PAN or application number. If you get no shares, the blocked amount should be released on or about 27 October.

Here is what each status means, when to expect your shares or your money, and what to do if something goes wrong.

When will the Jio IPO allotment status be available?

The red herring prospectus gives this indicative timetable. SEBI’s investor guide on investing in IPOs says you can check status in the investor services section of the registrar’s website, and you may also get an SMS or email.

NSE: open the NSE bid and allotment verification page, pick the Jio Platforms symbol, and enter your PAN or application number.

Registrar: KFin Technologies is the registrar for this issue, as named in the prospectus filed with SEBI. Its IPO status page lets you look up your application once allotment is final.

BSE or your broker app: BSE’s website and most broker apps also show the status once the registrar shares it.

Use the same PAN you applied with. If you bid in both the retail and RIL shareholder categories, each application has its own status.

What does each allotment status mean?

Status

What it means

What happens next

Allotted

You got shares, usually one lot for a retail bid in an oversubscribed issue

Shares are credited to your demat account and the amount for them is debited

Not allotted

Your bid was valid but you did not get shares

The full block on your bank account is removed

Rejected or invalid

The bid had a problem, such as details that did not match

The block should be removed; ask your broker or bank for the reason

Not getting shares does not mean you did anything wrong. Under the prospectus, each retail allottee gets at least one lot only subject to availability, so when far more people apply than there are lots, many valid bids get nothing.

When will your blocked money be released?

Your money was never debited. Under ASBA, the bid amount is only blocked in your bank account through your UPI mandate. If you are not allotted, the block should be removed on or about 27 October.

If you are allotted, only the amount for the shares you received is debited. Any excess block, for example if you bid for several lots and got one, is released.

What if your money stays blocked? An example

The prospectus sets out compensation under SEBI’s rules for UPI bids. For delayed unblocking on non-allotted or partly allotted applications, the bank must pay Rs 100 per day or 15% a year of the bid amount, whichever is higher. This runs from the working day after the basis of allotment until the actual unblock.

Illustrative case

Calculation

Compensation

One lot bid of Rs 13,428, unblocked 3 days late

Rs 100 x 3 days = Rs 300, against about Rs 17 at 15% a year

Rs 300, the higher amount

The prospectus also says banks must resolve ASBA complaints within 15 days, or pay 15% a year interest for the delay beyond that.

A blocked amount you cannot use can leave a gap in your monthly budget. If that gap is pushing you towards card debt or a short-term loan, check what it will really cost first. BillCut has explained how credit card interest can explode when dues roll over. If you are already juggling several high interest dues, check your options with BillCut.

What should you do if there is a problem?

Check your status on NSE and the registrar’s site on 26 October.

If you are not allotted, check your bank account or UPI app on 27 October for the released block.

If the block is still there after that, raise a complaint with your bank and note the date.

If shares were allotted but do not show in your demat account, contact your depository participant and the registrar.

If the bank or registrar does not resolve it, file a complaint on SEBI’s SCORES portal. SCORES asks you to approach the entity first.

Be careful with links promising faster allotment checks. BillCut’s guide to fake refund UPI scams explains why you should never approve a UPI request to “receive” money. For basics on where your shares go, see demat account basics.

How BillCut can help

BillCut is a balance transfer and debt reduction platform. It works with lending partners to help eligible borrowers move high interest dues, such as credit card balances and personal loan EMIs, into one structured EMI. BillCut earns from helping borrowers refinance, so it has an interest in this option.
