Listing is the day a company’s shares start trading on a stock exchange. On Jio listing day, the offer document gives an indicative date of on or about Wednesday, 28 October 2026 on NSE and BSE. The opening price is found in a special pre-open session that starts at 9:00 am, and normal trading begins at 10:00 am.
What is an IPO listing?
Listing means the shares of a company that raised money in an IPO become available to buy and sell on the stock exchange. Before that, the shares are allotted to bidders and credited to their demat accounts. After that, their price changes through buy and sell orders like any other listed share.
When is the Jio listing date?
The Jio Platforms red herring prospectus gives an indicative timetable. Each date is marked “on or about”, so a delay of a day is possible. NSE is the designated exchange for the issue, according to the prospectus filed with SEBI.
| Step | Indicative date |
|---|---|
| Basis of allotment finalised | Monday, 26 October 2026 |
| Funds unblocked for non-allottees | Tuesday, 27 October 2026 |
| Shares credited to demat accounts | Tuesday, 27 October 2026 |
| Listing and start of trading on NSE and BSE | Wednesday, 28 October 2026 |
How does the special pre-open session work on listing day?
New listings do not open at random. According to NSE’s FAQs on the special pre-open session, the day runs in set windows.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 9:00 am to 9:45 am | Orders are entered, changed or cancelled. Only limit orders are accepted, and the window closes at a random time in the 44th to 45th minute |
| 9:45 am to 9:55 am | Orders are matched at a single equilibrium price, the price at which the most shares can trade |
| 9:55 am to 10:00 am | A buffer period before normal trading |
| 10:00 am onwards | Normal trading |
The equilibrium price becomes the open price. If no equilibrium price is found, the shares move to the normal market at the issue price.
Is there a limit on how far the Jio share price can move?
NSE’s FAQ says no price bands apply in the special pre-open session itself, but an operating range applies instead. For IPOs, the initial range is from minus 50% to plus 100% of the base price, which is the issue price, and the exchanges can flex it. The table below uses an illustrative issue price of Rs 1,119, the top of the Jio price band. The final issue price may differ.
| Limit | Worked out as | At Rs 1,119 (illustrative) |
|---|---|---|
| Lower end of initial range | 50% below the issue price | Rs 559.50 |
| Issue price (base price) | Set in the offer document | Rs 1,119 |
| Upper end of initial range | 100% above the issue price | Rs 2,238 |
The range is a safety limit, not a forecast. It does not tell you where the shares will open.
What should you do on listing day?
SEBI’s investor guide on investing in IPOs says to use your own funds and not to invest with the anticipation of making quick profits on listing. A loan or card balance used to bid or to buy more shares keeps charging interest whatever the shares do. If high interest dues are already weighing on your budget, Check your options with BillCut.
