A CIBIL score check free online by PAN number takes a few minutes. You open the official CIBIL website, create an account with your PAN and basic details, verify your identity, and view your score and report. The steps below explain the process in plain words.
What do you need before you start?
Keep these ready. The exact fields on the site can change, so follow what the page asks for.
- Your PAN, exactly as printed on the card.
- Your full name and date of birth, as in your records.
- A mobile number and email address you can access, since verification codes are usually sent there.
- Details of an existing loan or card, in case the site asks extra identity questions.
How do you check your CIBIL score free online using your PAN?
- Type the official address into your browser yourself. Do not tap links from messages or ads.
- Find the section for individuals and choose the option for a free score and report.
- Sign up with your name, email and mobile number.
- Enter your PAN and date of birth when asked.
- Complete the verification step, such as a one time code sent to your phone.
- Open your dashboard to see your score and the report behind it.
As the CIBIL site describes it, the free score can be refreshed once a year, and looking at your own score does not lower it. Rules and plans can change, so confirm the current offer on the site. Some paid plans are also shown there. You are not required to buy one to see the free option.
What does the report show besides the score?
The score is a three digit summary. The report holds the detail that lenders read.
| Section | What it generally shows |
|---|---|
| Personal details | Name, date of birth, PAN, addresses, phone numbers |
| Accounts | Loans and cards, limits, balances, payment history |
| Enquiries | Lenders who checked your report after you applied for credit |
| Remarks | Any overdue, written off or settled status noted by lenders |
How do you read your score?
Scores are generally shown in a range, and a higher number is usually seen as lower risk. Each lender sets its own cut off, so no single number guarantees or blocks a loan. Check the score range explained on the CIBIL site rather than relying on a rule of thumb from a forum.
Different bureaus can show different scores for the same person. Our guide on the difference between CIBIL, Experian, CRIF and Equifax explains why.
What should you look for in the report?
- Accounts you do not recognise. These can point to identity misuse.
- Loans you already closed but that still show as open.
- Missed payments you believe were paid on time.
- Wrong personal details, such as an old address or a mistyped PAN.
If something is wrong, raise a dispute through the bureau and also tell the lender that reported it. Keep screenshots and payment proofs. If you suspect fraud, you can report it at cybercrime.gov.in. For a general consumer complaint, the National Consumer Helpline is an official option.
What if the check does not work?
- Recheck the PAN, name and date of birth for typing errors.
- Make sure the mobile number is active and can receive codes.
- If no record is found, you may be new to credit. A thin file is common for first time borrowers.
- If details differ from your PAN records, you can review them on the Income Tax portal.
Is it safe to share your PAN online?
Share it only on the official site you typed in yourself. Never send your PAN, codes or passwords to someone who calls or messages you offering a score check or a score boost. Genuine free checks do not need your card PIN or bank password.
What to do after you see your score
If the score is healthy, keep paying on time and keep card use moderate. If it is low, our guide on improving your credit score lists habits that generally help over time. The credit health reports guide also shows how to read each section.
An illustrative example. Illustrative only: Asha sees a card account marked overdue. She remembers paying it. She finds her payment receipt, writes to the bank, and asks for the record to be corrected. After the bank updates it, her report can reflect the change. Timelines vary by lender.
If you carry several high interest dues and find them hard to manage, you can look at structured options.

Frequently asked questions
Is a CIBIL score check by PAN really free?
The CIBIL site describes a free score and report that can be refreshed once a year. Check the current offer on the official CIBIL website, as plans can change.
Does checking my own score reduce it?
Checking your own score is generally treated as a soft enquiry and, as the CIBIL site states, does not affect it. Lender checks after a loan application are different.
Can I check my score with only a PAN?
The PAN is a main identifier, but you will generally also need your name, date of birth, phone number and email, plus verification.
How often should I check?
Once or twice a year is usually enough. Check before a big loan application or if you suspect an error.
Why is my score different on other apps?
Other platforms may show a different bureau or a different scoring model. Only the official bureau site shows its own score.
What if my score is low?
Look at the report for errors first. Then focus on on time payments and lower card use. Improvement generally takes months, not days.
Where can I report a fake score check call?
Do not share codes. Report cyber fraud at cybercrime.gov.in and raise consumer issues with the National Consumer Helpline.
