Bank holidays November 2026 fall on nine dates under the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday list, led by Diwali on 9 to 11 November and Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24 November. Banks also close on the second and fourth Saturdays, 14 and 28 November. Your EMI auto-debit can still go through on a holiday.

Holidays differ by city, so a branch in Mumbai may be shut on a day when a branch in Chennai is open. Below is the full bank holiday list for November 2026, exactly as the RBI publishes it, followed by what a holiday means for your EMI, card bill and cheques.

What is the bank holiday list for November 2026 ₹

The table below comes from the RBI’s holiday matrix, which lists holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act by RBI regional office. The RBI groups holidays by city, not by state, so each city below stands for the area its regional office covers. The occasion names are copied as the RBI lists them for each date.

Which Saturdays and Sundays are banks closed in November 2026 ₹

Since 1 September 2015, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks observe a public holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, and work full days on the other Saturdays, according to the RBI’s press release on Saturday holidays.

Saturdays in November 2026 Bank status
7 November (first Saturday) Working day
14 November (second Saturday) Bank holiday
21 November (third Saturday) Working day
28 November (fourth Saturday) Bank holiday

The RBI holiday matrix does not list Sundays. The Sundays in November 2026 are 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 November. If you need a branch on one of these dates, check its working days with your bank first.

Is the bank open today? How to check

To check whether your bank is open today, find your city in the table above, then check whether the date is a second or fourth Saturday. Holidays vary by state, and a branch may also close for local reasons, such as an order by the state government or a local event. The safest step is to call your branch or check your bank’s app before you travel.

A branch holiday usually does not stop digital banking. UPI, net banking, mobile banking and ATMs usually keep working, though an ATM may run low on cash over a long weekend. NEFT is available on all days of the year, including holidays, under the RBI’s 24×7 NEFT circular.

What happens to your EMI or card payment on a bank holiday?

Most EMIs are collected by auto-debit through NACH, the National Automated Clearing House. In its June 2021 statement on developmental and regulatory policies, the RBI said NACH would be available on all days of the week throughout the year from 1 August 2021. The same statement says NACH is used to collect periodic instalments towards loans.

So an EMI due on Diwali or Guru Nanak Jayanti can still be debited on its due date. If your account is short that day, the debit can fail and your lender may charge a bounce fee. Keep enough balance in the account the day before the due date, especially if salary or a transfer may be delayed by the holiday.

For credit cards, the RBI’s credit card Master Direction says late payment charges and related charges apply only when a card account remains past due for more than three days, counted from the payment due date on your statement. Late charges are levied only on the outstanding amount after the due date. This three day window covers late fees only: if you do not pay the total amount due by the due date, you lose the interest-free period and interest can apply.

Payment type Does a bank holiday affect it?
EMI auto-debit through NACH No, NACH runs on all days; keep the balance ready
Credit card bill paid by UPI, net banking or app Usually no, digital channels usually keep working
NEFT transfer No, NEFT runs on all days including holidays
Cash or cheque paid at a branch Yes, the branch is shut; pay on an earlier working day
Cheque you deposit for clearing May take longer; ask your branch

Cheques are cleared through the Cheque Truncation System, which has a single presentation session from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, according to the RBI’s continuous clearing circular. If you pay a card bill or a loan by cheque, give it several working days before the due date, and ask your branch how a holiday changes the timing.

An illustrative example

Say you have a personal loan EMI of Rs 12,000 due on 24 November 2026, which is Guru Nanak Jayanti and a bank holiday in many cities. Your salary account has Rs 9,500 on 23 November, and your employer’s transfer arrives on 25 November. The NACH debit can still be presented on 24 November, so it may fail for a shortfall of Rs 2,500. A bounce fee and a missed payment can follow, even though the holiday did not stop the debit. These figures are illustrative.

If bounced EMIs or late fees are piling up across several loans and cards, moving those dues into one structured EMI may make the dates easier to manage, though it comes with its own fees and terms. Check your options with BillCut.

What should you do before the November 2026 bank holidays?

  1. Find your city in the RBI list above and mark the holidays in your calendar, along with 14 and 28 November.
  2. Check the due dates of every EMI and card bill that falls between 9 and 28 November.
  3. Keep enough balance in your EMI account the day before each due date. See why an auto-debit EMI bounce can cost more than the fee.
  4. Pay card bills by UPI, net banking or your card app a day or two early rather than by cheque.
  5. If an auto-debit fails, pay the lender directly as soon as you can. BillCut explains common auto-debit failures in India and the auto-debit rules many borrowers miss.
  6. Call your branch before any visit, since local closures can happen at short notice.

How BillCut can help

BillCut is a balance transfer and debt reduction platform. It works with lending partners to help eligible borrowers move high interest dues, such as credit card balances and personal loan EMIs, into one structured EMI. BillCut earns from helping borrowers refinance, so it has an interest in this option. Approval and terms depend on the partner lender, and it only makes sense if the total cost after fees is lower.
